Fabric Preparation

Please refer to Fabrics under Tools of the Trade.

Thread Lengths

A thread length for each row will not be used; rather, use a continuous length of thread of about 1½–2, yards long. Cut and use new lengths as needed.

Stitches

This design uses the straight and loop stitches. Refer to the Swedish Weaving Stitch Guide for individual stitch diagrams.

Weaving the Design

1. Measure 1 inch up and 1 inch in from the bottom right-hand corner of the fabric and mark that spot. This will be the starting point for stitching and is marked with a red arrow on the chart.

2. At the vertical float closest to the starting mark, push the needle and thread up from the fabric reverse side through the float, leaving about a 3–4-inch tail of thread. Stitch the first loop stitch as shown on the chart.

3. Following the chart, stitch the rest of the first row. There will be a total of 24 loop stitches.

4. Before continuing to the next row, go back and secure your thread tail by running it through about 4 floats and doubling back (see photo).
